CBSE and Bihar Board Exams 2027: The Big Changes Every Student and Parent Must Know
The 2026–27 session has brought some of the biggest changes in board examinations in many years.
The 2026–27 session has brought some of the biggest changes in board examinations in many years. CBSE has changed how Class 10 board exams will work, a new question pattern has come into full force, and the Bihar Board has reopened its examination forms for students who missed the first deadline. At the same time, the date sheets that every family is waiting for have not been released yet, and many wrong dates are circulating on WhatsApp and social media.
We have prepared this simple guide so that our students and parents in Gopalganj and nearby areas know exactly what is confirmed, what is expected, and what they should do right now. Please read it fully and share it with other parents, because one missed date or one spelling mistake in a form can trouble a student for the whole year.
CBSE Updates: Two Board Exams, a New Pattern and a Pending Date Sheet
The biggest news is for Class 10. Following the National Education Policy 2020, CBSE now conducts two board examinations in one year for Class 10. This system began with the 2026 examinations, which means the students appearing in February 2027 will be the second batch under it. The rules, announced by CBSE in its June 2025 notification and clarified again in February 2026, are clear and every parent should understand them.
The first examination, expected in mid-February 2027, is compulsory for every student. The second examination, expected in May 2027, is optional. It is meant only for improvement: a student who has passed can reappear in up to three subjects, chosen from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and the language papers, and the better of the two scores will be counted as final. Students who receive a compartment in the first examination can also use the second examination to clear it. Internal assessment will be done only once, before the main examination, and appearing in it is compulsory.
Parents must note one strict rule. The first examination is the real, main examination — it is not a trial. If a student fails to appear in three or more subjects in the first examination, that student will be placed in the "Essential Repeat" category and will not be allowed to sit in the second examination at all. Such a student can appear only in the next February's main examination. So please do not let your child take the February examination lightly thinking that "there is always May." May is only a chance to improve a result, not a replacement for February. One more helpful provision: students can take provisional admission in Class 11 on the basis of the main examination result, so studies need not stop while improvement results come.
The question paper pattern has also changed in a way that affects preparation. Competency-based questions — case studies, source-based questions, data interpretation and real-life application problems — now form the biggest part of the paper, around 40 to 50 percent. Objective questions, mainly MCQs, carry about 20 percent, and short and long answer questions make up the remaining 30 to 40 percent. In simple words, nearly half the paper now checks whether the student has understood the chapter, not whether the student has memorised it. CBSE has also made section-wise answering strict in Class 10 Science and Social Science: the Science paper is divided into Biology, Chemistry and Physics sections, and answers must be written in their own sections, otherwise they may not be evaluated. For Class 12 families, one more change matters: from the 2026 examinations, Class 12 answer books are checked through On-Screen Marking, in which scanned copies are evaluated digitally by teachers. Students still write with pen on paper, but digital checking removes totalling mistakes and speeds up results. The passing mark remains 33 percent in each subject.
Right now, schools are completing the List of Candidates (LOC), the official list through which your child's name, subjects and details are sent to CBSE. The regular LOC window closed on 21 October 2026; schools can still submit with a late fee until 30 October, and a short correction window follows in early November. This is the last safe chance to correct a wrong name, date of birth or subject. The 2027 date sheet itself has not been released yet. Last year the final date sheet came on 30 October 2025, so it is expected in the coming days or weeks, and the examinations are expected to begin in mid-February 2027 as usual. Until CBSE publishes the PDF on cbse.gov.in, please do not trust any date sheet forwarded on WhatsApp.
Bihar Board (BSEB) Updates: Forms Reopened Till 31 October, Sent-Up Exams in November
For Bihar Board students, the most urgent news is about examination forms. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has reopened the online examination form window for the Matric (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) annual examinations 2027. The earlier last date was 15 October 2026. Students who missed it can now submit their forms from 16 October to 31 October 2026 by paying the applicable late fee. Remember that students cannot fill these forms on their own at home: the forms are submitted online by the head of your school or college — through intermediate.biharboardonline.com for Intermediate students and exam.biharboardonline.org for Matric students. So if your child's form is still pending, go to the school or college today itself, complete the fee and formality, and take a receipt or copy. This is a special extension, and no student should depend on getting another one.
The next compulsory step is the sent-up examination, the screening test held in the student's own school or college. As per the routines published for this session, the Intermediate sent-up examination is scheduled in the second week of November 2026, beginning around 9 November, and the Matric sent-up examination is expected around 11 to 14 November 2026, in two sittings — 9:30 AM to 12:45 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. Under the board's rules, appearing in and passing the sent-up examination is compulsory. A student who remains absent or fails will not be issued the admit card for the final board examination. The board also expects regular students to maintain about 75 percent attendance. Treat the sent-up examination like the real board examination, because in one sense it is — it decides whether your child reaches the board examination hall at all.
After the forms, the dummy admit card is expected in November 2026. The dummy admit card is a trial copy of the final admit card, and it is your family's chance to catch mistakes. Check the student's name, father's and mother's names, photograph, date of birth and the subject list very carefully, and report any error to the school immediately so it is corrected inside the board's correction window. A mistake ignored at this stage will be printed on the final admit card and later on the marksheet, and correcting it afterwards is a long and painful process.
The subject-wise timetable for the 2027 examinations has not been announced yet; it is expected in November 2026, as last year it was announced around the end of November. Going by the board's recent pattern, the Intermediate theory examinations are expected in the first half of February 2027 and the Matric examinations in the second half of February, in offline pen-and-paper mode at examination centres, with 15 minutes of reading time before writing begins. Practical examinations are expected in January 2027, and the final admit cards will also reach schools in January. Bihar Board is known across the country for fast results, and the 2027 results are expected around March 2027. No major change in the examination pattern has been announced for 2027, so students should prepare in the same objective-plus-subjective pattern they already know.
What These Changes Mean for Students and Parents
First, both boards are sending the same message: understanding matters more than memorisation. Whether it is CBSE's competency-based questions or the daily classroom tests we conduct, the student who understands concepts will score better than the student who only crams answers in the last month.
Second, the second CBSE examination has reduced fear, but it has not reduced the importance of the first examination. February is the main event; May is only a bonus opportunity for those who want to improve. Families should plan the full preparation for February itself.
Third, paperwork has become a part of preparation. The LOC for CBSE and the examination form, dummy admit card for BSEB — a single wrong letter in a name or a wrong subject code follows the student into the admit card and marksheet. Parents should personally verify the details instead of leaving it fully to chance, and keep copies of every receipt and form.
Fourth, the calendar is now quite clear and predictable: forms in October, sent-up examinations and dummy admit cards in November, practicals in January, board examinations in February and results around March and April. Families can plan travel, functions and study time around these months without confusion, as long as they follow official notices only.
What Students Should Do Now
1. Confirm your form today. Bihar Board students: make sure your examination form is submitted through your school or college before 31 October 2026. CBSE students: ask your school to confirm that your name is correctly entered in the LOC.
2. Check every detail. Read your name's spelling, date of birth, photograph and subject list wherever they appear — LOC details, form copy and, when it comes, the dummy admit card. Report mistakes to the school office the same day.
3. Do not miss the sent-up examination. For BSEB students it is compulsory for getting the admit card. CBSE students should treat pre-board examinations with the same seriousness.
4. Keep attendance above 75 percent. Both boards expect regular attendance, and a shortage can stop a student from appearing in the examination.
5. Change how you practise. Solve case-based and competency-based questions, previous years' papers and model papers. Practise writing answers neatly in the correct sections of the answer sheet.
6. Finish the syllabus by December. Keep January for revision, practical examinations and weak chapters, so that February is faced with confidence, not panic.
7. Trust only official sources. Check cbse.gov.in for CBSE and the Bihar Board's official portals for BSEB news. Do not forward or believe date sheets and notices received on social media unless your school confirms them.
8. Parents, keep documents ready. Keep the registration card, Aadhaar card, photographs and fee receipts in one file, and stay in touch with the school office throughout the session.
At Educational Galaxy, Ekderwa, Near Hariharpur, Gopalganj, we are following every notice from both boards, and our teachers have already adjusted classroom tests and practice material to the new pattern — more competency-based questions for CBSE students and full sent-up-style practice for Bihar Board students. If any parent needs help understanding a date, a form or a notice, you are welcome to visit the institute and ask. As Rashid Sohail, Director, Educational Galaxy, reminds our students: the rules are announced early and equally for everyone, so the students who benefit most are not the ones who panic in February, but the ones who prepare steadily from today. Let us begin, together.
